EAST KALIMANTAN, SINGAPORE TO COOPERATE IN HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT
Samarinda, East Kalimantan, April 8 (ANTARA) - East Kalimantan Province will establish cooperation with Singaporean hospitals under the management of Parkway Health in the management of regional public hospitals.
"East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek is very enthusiastic about the planned cooperation expected to help support the Healthy East Kalimantan 2010 program. Besides, this cooperation will be beneficial to the business and economic sectors as well because East Kalimantan is determined to copy the example of Singapore which is excellent in the hospital management. We hope East Kalimantan will be a main destination for those seeking health services in the Kalimantan region in the future," Zairin Zen, a spokesman of the East Kalimantan provincial administration, said here on Wednesday.
The cooperation would be aimed at improving the performance, quality, and capability of medical personnel and health services for the public, he said.
Parkway Health's Senior Marketing Manager Suwandi Leo and Marketing Manager Syed Mashor in their recent meeting with Governor Awang Faroek Ishak in Samarinda, expressed their interest in establishing cooperation with East Kalimantan, according to Zen.
They were especially interested in cooperation with Public Hospital Kanudjoso in Balikpapan, Regional Public Hospital A Wahab Sjahrani in Samarinda and Regional Public Hospital Tarakan in Tarakan city, he said.
"We know that the health service quality in Singapore is excellent, and therefore many Indonesians, including those from East Kalimantan, go to the neighboring country for medical checkups," he said.
The Governor, according to him, hoped that the health service quality and performance of several hospitals in East Kalimantan would copy those in Singapore.
The local authorities planned to support the quality improvement of the medical faculty of The University of Mulawarman in Samarinda, he said.
Governor Ishak recently urged local private hospitals to explore cooperation with hospital managers in other countries in order to improve the health services in the province.
