THREE TERRORISTS GET 12 YEARS IN JAIL EACH
Jakarta, Apr 7 (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday sentenced three "Palembang" terrorists to 12 years in prison each.
The sentences were lower than the 15 years in jail the prosecutors had demanded for them.
The panel of judges said the three defendants, namely Sugiarto alias Sugicheng, Agustiawarman alias Abu Taskid and Heri Purwanto alias Abu Hurairoh had been proven guilty of terrorism.
In their consideration the judges also said that their actions had hindered efforts in seizing other terror suspects threatening the community.
In response to the ruling, the defendants said they did not yet know if they would appeal or accept it as they still had to consult their lawyers.
The prosecutors said among the incriminating factors they had put in their demand was their premeditated action of killing Dago Simamora.
Their action on Simamora was sadistic and inhumane. Meanwhile people on Jalan Papera, Palembang, Sumatra, had also been made scared following the discovery of explosives and bomds in their home.
"They have pleaded guilty to all the charges making the process of trial go smoothly," they said.
The case also involve seven other suspects namely Anis Sugandi alias Abdullah Hussair and Sukarso Abdillah alias Abdurrahman, Fajar Taslik alias Muhammad Hasan, Ali Mashudi alias Zuber and Wahyudi alias Yudi as well as Abdurrohman Thaib alias Musa and Ki Agus Muhammad Toni.
As reported the network was unveiled following a request from the Singapore police to arrest Jamaah Islamiyah alleged terrorist Mas Slamet Kastari that had run from that country's jail in 2007.
Following the operation to meet the request the Indonesian police then arrested Muhamamd Hasan who was one of JI Singapore bomb experts in Sekayu, Musi Banyu Asin, on June 28, 2008.
The arrest then led to the arrest of nine other suspects that had received training in bomb making from Muhammad Hasan during a raid on July 2, 2008.
During the raid the Anti-Terror 88 Detachment confiscated 20 bombs, 16 of them were ready to be exploded.
