FOCUS TURNED TO DOMESTIC MARKET AFTER EXPORTS DROP
Jakarta, April 8 (ANTARA) - The Small and Medium Business and Cooperatives Marketing Service Institute (LLP-KUKM) is turning its focus to the domestic market after export demand dropped significantly.
"Because exports drop we wish to focus on developing the domestic market," its president director, Harun Kusuwardhono, said here on Wednesday.
To support the plan he said LLP-KUKM had set up a Small and Medium Business (UKM) Gallery, which was dedicated by State Minister for Cooperatives and UKM, Suryadharma Ali, on Friday.
The Gallery in Smesco Indonesia Building on Jalan Gatot Subroto Kav 94 in South Jakarta, is an outlet for top products of cooperatives and UKM, involving thousands of handicraftsmen from across the country.
The products include leather bags, shoes, jackets and sandals, outdoor and indoor furniture, household utensils, ceramic and other handcraft products.
Harun said "in the future the Gallery will be provided with supporting facilities such s cafe, restaurants, banks and others."
He said his side also planned to open a building near Smesco for a multi-purpose events. He said the building could serve as a new public facility for event organization with a capacity of accommodating up to 10,000 people.
All efforts are aimed at developing a domestic market for UKM products, he said.
He said almost all countries that had so far been the potential markets for UKM products such as East Europe and the US had cut or even stopped their demand.
He said his side however still continued maintaining some potential markets which still have relatively good purchasing power such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya.
