SUCCESSFUL LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES TO BE GIVEN ANTI-CORRUPTION ORIENTATION
Jakarta, April 8 (ANTARA) - Candidates who are elected as members of the House of Representatives (DPR) on April 9 will be given orientation including against corruption.
"Its organization will be done by the DPR's Ethics Council (BK) in cooperation with the officers concerned in the DPR such as the secretariat general and commissions," BK deputy chairman Gayus Lumbun, said here on Wednesday.
He said BK had so far received a lot of suggestions calling for the holding of orientation for the new DPR members. Such suggestions had also been conveyed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership particularly with regard to fighting corruption.
He said the KPK had even expressed its willingness to become the facilitator. He said BK considered the suggestions important and had to be given an attention. He said however that the orientation program would be organized internally by the DPR.
"We will still involve KPK especially on anti-corruption issues," he said.
He said all DPR members would be obliged to attend the orientation. He said orientation would also cover code of ethics, internal rules.
Gayus admitted the majority vote-based system of selection of DPR members following the Constitutional Court's ruling had made candidates to spend a lot of money for their campaign.
He said a lot of money was needed for activities from the early process of nomination to the end of campaigning. In view of that orientation will be needed for them including on prevention of corruption.
