Chief of Public Security receives Anti-Slavery Commissioner

Manama, Oct. 15 (BNA): Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan has received the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner in the UK, Dame Sara Thornton. The Chief welcomed the UK official, asserting the dedication of the Interior Ministry to counter human trafficking through a partnership with the concerned authorities, including the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Labour Market Regulatory Authority. He highlighted the formation of a directorate to counter human trafficking per a decision by His Excellency Interior Minister to receive related cases and take required legal steps. The Chief also highlighted the dedication of the ministry to promote community partnership and provide support and care for victims, along with informing them of their rights and provide them with medical care and shelter. He asserted that the Kingdom places anti-human trafficking among its priorities to reinforce human rights. Thus, deterrent laws have been endorsed. He said that the Royal Academy of Police had held various courses and workshops in cooperation with the United Nations and specialised centres and academies about security and legal procedures to deal with human trafficking cases for the ministry’s employees. Mrs Thornton expressed thanks and appreciation to the Chief for his keenness to promote cooperation, and the Kingdom for its efforts in the protection of human rights.
