MPR CHAIRMAN DISAPPOINTED BY ELECTION COMMISSION

Bekasi, W Java, April 9 (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Hidayat Nurwahid said he felt disappointed by the General Election Commission (KPU) over the finding of many fictitious voter lists in several areas in the 2009 legislative elections.

The commission should make the finding a serious lesson to prevent from possible recurrence in the upcoming presidential election, Nurwahid said after casting his vote in Pondok Gede sub district, Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday.

On the occasion, Nurwahid who is also a member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS)'s Law Making Council called on KPU to maintain the votes of the people who hold the highest souvereignty in Indonesia.

He reminded that KPU guarantee witnesses during the vote counting and prevent from the presence of persons trying to change polling results so as to tarnish the legitimacy and quality of the 2009 general elections.

"The world is proud of Indonesia for its democracy and being the third biggest muslim country voicing the principles of democracy. This good image should not be damaged by certain persons who want to disturb the process of general elections," said Nurwahid.

On possible coalition between the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Democrats Party whose chairman of its advisory board is President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, he said the matter would be discussed at a meeting of PKS' Law Making Council.
"We will respond to aspirations of cadres in every region through a decision of the Law Making Council. PKS as an open party give big opportunities to other political parties for possible coalition," he said. ***1***
