HRH Premier stresses need to promote UN’s role in dealing with global changes, challenges

Manama, Oct. 22 (BNA): In a message to the world on the occasion of the United Nations Day, which falls on Thursday 24th of October, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has commended the initiatives and efforts of the United Nations in the sustainable development field, which has become a framework for a broad international action based on the expansion of trust and mutual interests among countries and peoples to realize the lofty principles of the United Nations in establishing a stable world order.
HRH Premier added that success in the attainment of common humanitarian goals in terms of living in security and peace and economic growth rates that ensure decent livelihoods for peoples and preserve safety of the environment, need a collective will based on awareness of the importance of joint work to develop appropriate solutions to all that threatens the future of humanity.
HRH the Prime Minister pointed out that the United Nations, which will enter its seventy-fifth year, has been a platform for hope and work for a more stable and secure future, after years of human life in conflicts and wars that have brought to the world only destruction, stressing the need to promote the role of the United Nations to make it more capable and influential in dealing with the increasing changes and challenges that the world is currently witnessing.
HRH Premier stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is keen to strengthen partnership with the United Nations and its specialised agencies based on His Majesty's vision that international cooperation is the only way for a world of lasting peace and prosperity.
The Prime Minister underlined the important role played by the United Nations in consolidating a conscious and responsible global vision of cooperation among peoples based on noble values and common human and civilisational denominators for the rise of peoples and protecting them from slipping into chaos and destruction.
HRH the Prime Minister stressed the importance of this occasion to be an opportunity to review and evaluate the mechanisms of the United Nations action in line with contemporary challenges, and contribute to the achievement of international understanding that would give it more space and effectiveness in the face of various international crises and prospects for the future.
The Premier stressed his belief that building confidence among peoples on the basis of the authority of the United Nations and the pillars of international law is a vital requirement at this critical stage in the history of the world, and that this trust cannot be achieved unless mutual respect and the principles of good neighbourliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of States, are the criterion on which relations among states are based.
HRH Premier said: "Many countries face real threats to their security, stability and the right of their peoples to development due to many factors that fuelled the spirit of division among members of the same society. The international community must be more determined and resolute under the UN umbrella to reach visions and means that bring peace and stability to communities.”
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain shares the United Nations' vision of cooperation and solidarity with all efforts exerted to spread security, peace, stability and support development, with a view to strengthening the foundations of coexistence among all peoples, establishing constructive cooperative relations among different countries and promoting fruitful openness among all cultures and civilisations so that the world may avoid slipping into more conflicts and tensions that pose the greatest threat to peace, stability and prosperity.
HRH the Prime Minister expressed Bahrain's pride in its distinguished and growing relationship with the United Nations since 1971, underlining the Kingdom's keenness to participate positively in achieving the noble goals of the United Nations aimed at implementing security in the world as a key pillar to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 for the prosperity of Peoples.
He highlighted the joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations and its affiliated agencies in the country, citing the signing of an important agreement, the Strategic Partnership Framework Agreement for the years (2018-2022), the first of its kind in the region, which was aimed at attracting external expertise, and transferring of local expertise and experiences, in addition to benefiting from the organisation's expertise in supporting future projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
HRH Premier welcomed the UN response and adoption of his initiative of launching the International Day of Conscience on the 5th of April, as an annual occasion to stimulate international action and partnership to build peace, promote stability and foresee a better future for the world and its peoples.
The Prime Minister called on the international community to be stronger, more effective and committed to defending and respecting the noble principles of the United Nations by believing in the importance of collective action as a basis for development, security and stability. He also called on the international community to ensure non -interference in internal affairs and respect for good neighbourliness, and other principles enshrined in the Charter of the international organisation.
HRH Premier expressed his hope that the international will, represented by the United Nations, will have visions for the future and that it will have alternatives and effective solutions to face the most urgent issues, especially terrorism, violence and refugees, for the security of the world.
Concluding his message, His Royal Highness the Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and all staff of the United Nations and its specialised agencies in consolidating international cooperation in the fields of development, as well as promotion and establishment of peace and security in the world.
