Kuwait PM receives women journalists’ forum delegations

Kuwait, Oct. 27 (BNA): Kuwait’s Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Journalists Association Adnan Al-Rashed and media delegations participating in the third Gulf Women Journalists Forum 2019.
The Prime Minister praised the efforts exerted by Gulf women in developing media through various means, especially spreading awareness and culture, pushing development efforts and showing the honorable image of society, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
Bahrain Journalists Association is taking an active part in the media meeting with its president Ahdeya Ahmed highlighting the significance of the forum as an opportunity to discuss opportunities and challenges for Gulf female journalists.
In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Ahdeya called for the reinforcement of the freedom and status of the media in the region as it deals with ominous difficulties related to several challenges.
She praised Kuwait’s gracious hospitality and generous opportunities to women journalists to engage in deep discussion of all matters pertinent to their mission.
Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri said in a separate meeting that the gathering in Kuwait of women journalists from across the Gulf region is part of HH the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's plan of forging better ties with regional countries.
Kuwait and its Gulf neighbors have always shared robust bonds, Al-Jabri said amid the talks, organized by the Kuwaiti Journalists Association (KJA), pointing out that women have started to make a name for themselves in the field of journalism.
With the bewildering advancements in technology seen in recent years, the media has taken on an increasingly significant role, the minister said as he highlighted the importance of ethical journalism to thwart the dissemination of fake news and misinformation.
Such gatherings are tantamount to women's empowerment, said Adnan Al-Rashid, the secretary of the Kuwait Journalists Association, emphasizing the major progress women journalists have made in the Gulf region, KUNA reported.
Rabaa Al-Jumaa, a member of KJA's Board of Trustees, agreed that the talks are crucial and allow women journalists in the Gulf the chance to "create a positive change" in the field of journalism, which in turn, ensures that the local media will continue to flourish.
Women are now on equal footing with men, narrowing the gender gap in a region that remains highly patriarchal, according to KJA chief Fatma Hussein.
The talks address matters dealing with the rise of women in the field of journalism, including some of the challenges they have had to encounter.
