DEMOCRATIC PARTY WANTS POLITICAL CHARTER-BASED COALITION
Bogor, W Java, April 10 (ANTARA) - After winning the biggest number of votes in Thursday's legislative elections based on quick counts by survey institutions, the Democratic Party said it wanted to build a coalition based on a political charter.
Democratic Party Advisory Council Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed hope at his Puri Cikeas residence here on Friday that a coalition should be based on a political charter that could be accounted for and explained to the people.
"Learning a lesson from the current coalition, both in the government and in parliament, the next coalition should be rules-based and its political contract should be made clear," Yudhoyono said.
He said that one should not think that the people did not understand the ethics of coalition.
Yudhoyono said that the Democratic Party wanted to develop an effective government which could nurture healthy relations with the parliament.
He also hoped that a healthy communication and good cooperation would be built within the coalition in carrying out the government.
In the government of next coalition there should be no minister who would criticize the government's policy or a political party which would all of a sudden ask for a replacement of its minister.
Therefore, he said, the next coalition should be based on a clear rule and political contract in order to avoid internal conflict in the cabinet.
He said that the Democratic Party was willing to coalesce with any political party of any ideology as long as it had the intention to bring a success to the nation's life and guarantee the running of the government for the coming five year term.
"For me, the parties which are suitable to join a coalition with the Democratic Party, no matter what ideologies they have, are those which have strong determination and want to cooperate. Moreover, if they have proven their good cooperation in the past coalition," he said. ***1***
