UNESCO honour for Bahrain

Paris, Nov. 12 (BNA): The kingdom of Bahrain has been elected as one of the UNESCO 40 deputy presidents at the General Conference held in Paris. Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi led Bahrain's delegation to the conference attended by officials representing 193 member countries. The United Nations secretary-general and the UNESCO director-general also attended the conference, along with world leading figures, specialists and experts in the fields of education, science and culture. The delegations discuss key global issues including the UNESCO 2015-2030 strategy and the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which focuses on ensuring good, fair and comprehensive education for all and lifelong learning opportunities. Dr. Al-Nuaimi also attended a ministerial meeting which focused on implementing the fourth SDG, stressing Bahrain’s keenness on attaining this objective. He underlined Bahrain’s landmark strides, pointing out that the Kingdom is celebrating the centenary of forming education. He also highlighted the law on compulsory and free education in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
