Audrey Azoulay congratulates Kyrgyzstan on election to UNESCO Executive Board

Bishkek, Nov.22, 2019. /Kabar/. Meeting of Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov with Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay took place at the Organizations’ headquarters in Paris, yesterday, Nov. 21.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the results of the participation of the Kyrgyz delegation at the 40th Session of the UNESCO General Conference, as well as the possibility of expanding cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNESCO in the full range of activities of the Organization: the preservation of cultural heritage, the development of education, intercultural dialogue, environmental protection and the rational use of water resources in Central Asia, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA reported.
The Director General congratulated Kyrgyzstan on election to the governing body of UNESCO, and wished success in the work of the Organization’s Executive Board.
In turn, FM Aidarbekov noted one of the main priorities for the Kyrgyz Republic, as a member of the Executive Board, will be to address issues, related to global climate change and its devastating impact on the integrity of ecosystems and the world's cultural and natural heritage.
Besides, the parties exchanged views on the possible organization of an expedition to climb the peak of UNESCO in Kyrgyzstan, as well as other joint activities under the auspices of UNESCO.
Chingiz Aidarbekov noted the importance of UNESCO's assistance to Kyrgyzstan, positively assessed the long-term fruitful cooperation and expressed hope for strengthening further cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO.
Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Jamankulov also took part in the meeting.
The UNESCO Peak, 5063 m high, is located in the Sary-Dzhaz mountain range in Central Tien Shan, and is currently the only mountain in the world named after UNESCO in 2006.
