PKS ASKS FOR RECOUNTING OF VOTES IN PIDIE JAYA OF ACEH
Banda Aceh, Apr 13 (ANTARA) - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) of Pidie Jaya district chapter asked the Independent General Election Commission (KIP) to re-count the votes collected in region for the 2009 legislative general election on account of many violations and abuses.
"We ask KIP and the general election supervisory committee (Panwaslu) to re-count the votes from all polling stations in Pidie Jaya district, to guarantee fair and just procedures in vote counting," PKS Chairman of Pidie Jaya district chaptr H Munirwan M Alamy, S Ag said here on Saturday.
The violations recorded at the polling stations had to do with the general election polling committee's (KPPS) failure to submit form C and C1 to witnesses present at the polling stations.
Based on article 180, point (2) of the law No 10/2008, it was said that KPPS was obliged to submit a statement on the vote counting and document on the results of vote counting to the witnesses.
In article 302, point (2), it was said that KPPS officials who intentionally did not submit a statement and document on vote counting were liable to legal mechanism.
Munirwan further stressed that as a result of no statement on vote counting given by KPPS, political parties and general election participants had no legal basis to report their presence in polling stations.
He also saw that authorities in charge of public services failed to act neutral. This could be seen from the fact that some public service officials at the polling stations directed the voters to choose a certain local party.
Then the involvement of certain community elements whose authority is greater than that of KPPS was easily spotted to help open the ballot papers and read the voter's choice on the ballot paper.
"We have reported all kind of violations to the general election supervisory committee in Pidie Jaya district and asked for re-count of the votes," he said.
