Kyrgyzstan’s cooperation with OIC discussed in Jeddah

Bishkek, Nov.26, 2019 /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov took part the Golden Jubilee ceremony of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) Monday, Nov. 25, 2019.
The event under the motto “United for Peace and Development” was held to commemorate 50th anniversary of the OIC, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported.
Within the framework of the event, FM Aidarbekov held meetings with OIC Secretary General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen and Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and topical issues of bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organisation after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states, including the United Arab Emirates, spread over four continents, according to the OIC website.
The Organisation is the collective voice of the Muslim world. It endeavours to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
The OIC was established by a decision of the historical summit which took place in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco on 12th Rajab 1389 Hijra (Sep.25,1969) following the criminal arson of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
In 1970, the first ever meeting of Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, was held in Jeddah, which decided to establish a permanent secretariat in Jeddah headed by the organisation’s Secretary-General.
Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al-Othaimeen is the 11th Secretary General who assumed the office in November 2016.
