President Jeenbekov sums up results of Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship in CSTO

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2019. / Kabar/. As part of the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in the CSTO, active work was carried out to increase the international prestige of the Organization, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov told at a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which is being held in an expanded format. The head of state spoke in detail about the results achieved during the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic in the CSTO. According to him, the legalization of the CSTO Crisis Response Center has been completed. Concrete steps have been taken to achieve the goals set in the field of military, military-economic and military-technical cooperation. A number of large-scale exercises have been carried out, in particular, the special “Echelon" exercise was held for the first time in Russia. Joint exercises “Indestructible Brotherhood” in Tajikistan and “Interaction” in Russia were held. As a result, coherence of the armed forces of the CSTO member states was achieved and their combat readiness was increased. “I should especially note the efforts of Russia to ensure the security of the entire Eurasian region. Vivid evidence of these efforts was the strategic command and staff exercise of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation “Center - 2019”. The active phase of exercises using the most modern technology I observed in Orenburg. I personally saw the power of Russian weapons and was very impressed. We can be calm for external borders of our CSTO member countries,” Jeenbekov emphasized. The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the contribution of the Russian president to ensuring security and stability in the CSTO space. Work was also actively carried out to increase the defense potential of the CSTO and to improve military cooperation. The focus was on the fight against drug trafficking. At the Edelweiss training ground of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, a tactical and special exercise “Thunder” was conducted. “At the same time, cooperation with other international and regional structures is expanding. In July of this year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CSTO. Operational cooperation continues on the issues of identifying, preventing and suppressing the use of information and communication technologies for terrorist and extremist purposes. Tasks are being fulfilled to form a common anti-terrorism space within the framework of our Organization. In general, the plans outlined during the period of chairmanship in the Organization have been completed successfully,” he stressed.
