Belarus representative Stanislav Zas becomes new CSTO Secretary General

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2019. / Kabar/. Representative of Belarus Stanislav Zas was approved as the new CSTO Secretary General, acting Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Valery Semerikov told following a session CSTO Collective Security Council in Bishkek.
He said that today the presidents of the heads of the CSTO member states congratulated the representative of Belarus, Stanislav Zas, on his appointment to the post of CSTO Secretary General in 2020. “This is in compliance with the decision of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of 2015, which clearly regulates the appointment of secretaries-general on a rotational basis according to the alphabet. There was Armenia and from January 1, 2020 there will be Belarus,” he explained.
The CSTO Summit in Bishkek is attended by Presidents of Kyrgyzstan - Sooronbai Jeenbekov, Belarus - Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russia - Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan - Emomali Rahmon, as well as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev and Acting Secretary General CSTO Valery Semerikov.
The CSTO is a military alliance created in 1992, grouping the six former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, with the aim of safeguarding peace and stability in Eurasia.
