YOGYAKARTA ELECTION WATCHDOG RECEIVES TWO VOTE-BUYING REPORTS

Yogyakarta, April 13 (ANTARA) - The Yogyakarta Election Monitoring Committee (Panwaslu) has received two reports from members of the local public an indications of money politics committed by legislative candidates from a certain political party.

"We have received two reports from people in two sub-districts on legislative candidates who used money to win voters' support," Yogyakarta's Panwaslu chairperson Anik Pudjiastuti said here on Monday.
According to the reports from people in Kotagede and Danurejan sub-districts, legislative candidates of a certain political party gave each would-be voter Rp20,000 to Rp50,000 prior to polling day last April 9 , Anik said.
She said a political party distributed the money from door to door, while another legislative candidate did the same thing by inviting local voters to his house before casting their ballot.
"We received the report from the Danurejan community a day after the election or on Friday, April 10, 2009 while people in Kotagede reported the same thing to us today (Monday)," Anik said.
But she added Panwaslu had yet to take legal action on the reported cases as it lacked the needed witnesses.
