PRESIDENTIAL RACE USELESS IF LEGISLATIVE POLLS FRAUD UNSETTLED: WIRANTO
Jakarta, April 13 (ANTARA) - It will be useless for the present presidential hopefuls to compete in July if the various forms of fraud in the recent legislative election remain unsettled, People's Conscience (Hanura) Party Chairman Wiranto said.
"There is no point in holding the presidential election in July if the system remains chaotic," Wiranto said after a meeting with Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party's Advisory Board chairman Prabowo Subianto at the Hanura Central Executive Board office here Monday.
Wiranto said he and Prabowo as well as other political party leaders had reached an agreement to bring about a change for the better in Indonesia.
"We have agreed that we have the same spirit to make this nation even better in the future," said the former National Defense Forces (TNI) commander.
Meanwhile, Prabowo said the competition which was taking place at present was between change and truth versus a system that had repressed the people's sovereignty.
"I want to make an overall change and not from person to person," Prabowo said.
Speaking about his meeting with Wiranto for the first time since 1989, Prabowo said it was a cordial get-together and was grateful it had taken place.
"We are grateful today that the leaders of Gerindra and Hanura have met," Prabowo said.
Prabowo and Wiranto met on Monday for the first time since 1998 when the former was the TNI commander and the latter the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) chief to discuss the results of the April 9, 2009 legislative elections.
Accompanied by a number of Gerindra cadres, Probowo arrived at Hanura's Central Executive Board office at 12 noon on Monday for a cordial meeting with Wiranto and to discuss state and national problems after the legislative elections.
"Apart from renewing our cordial relations, we discussed the political situation and national problems after the legislative elections. Wiranto is my senior and thus I had to consult him about the election results," Prabowo said. ***
