RUPIAH CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN EARLY TUESDAY
Jakarta, April 14 (ANTARA) - The rupiah continued to strengthen in the Jakarta interbank spot market early Tuesday and reached nearly Rp11,000 per US dollar, reflecting continued euphoria following the smooth implementation of the recent legislative elections.
The local currency traded at Rp11,020/11,040 per US dollar, up 85 points from Rp11,105/11,110 per US dollar in the market's close a day earlier.
Despite the euphoria, it would be hard for the rupiah to pass the level of Rp11,000 per US dollar, Rully Nova, a foreign currency analyst of PT Bank Himpunan Saudara Tbk, said here on Tuesday.
According to him, the main factor which hampered the rupiah to further advance, was the global financial crisis which become more severe despite the US government policy to issue stimulus package funds in large amount.
However, he was optimistic that the Indonesian currency would reach the level of Rp11,000 per US dollar next weekend.
"We are optimistic that the rupiah will be able to reach the level of Rp11,000 per US dollar if the euphoria continues," he said.
He said the national economy was growing at present thanks to the influx of local businessmen's funds deposited overseas and the improved performance of the Indonesian economy.
