Kyrgyzstan restricts access to 97 extremist websites, bans 300 accounts

Bishkek, Feb.10, 2020. /Kabar/. In 2019, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic submitted 27 applications to the courts to recognize information materials as extremist and terrorist and illegal advertisements of narcotic drugs, which have been satisfied, the press service of the main review body of the country reported on Monday. As a result of the consideration of the applications, the court has banned and restricted access to the Internet in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic to the 97 extremist websites and 300 pages of accounts, as well as to 21 information resources advertising drugs. In 2019, the procuratorial authorities, as part of their oversight of compliance with legislation on countering extremist and terrorist activities, advertising and distribution of narcotic drugs, submitted 257 acts of prosecutorial response to the executive authorities and local authorities, under which 225 officials were disciplined. In order to inform citizens about information materials prohibited by the courts, the Ministry of Justice of the country publishes on its official website a list of such materials, which are prohibited for distribution, replication and transfer to other persons in Kyrgyzstan.
