PAN, GERINDRA SIGNAL POSSIBLE COALITION
Jakarta, April 15 (ANTARA) - The Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party and National Mandate Party (PAN) have given a signal they are to coalesce to nominate a presidential candidate for the July 8 election.
The two parties' intention to form an alliance was implied in statements made by Gerindra Advisory Board chairman Prabowo Subianto and PAN chairman Sutrisno Bachir after a closed-door meeting at the PAN Central Executive Board office here on Wednesday.
Present at the 90-minute meeting were Sutrisno Bachir, PAN secretary general Zulkifli Hassan and the party's cadre Totok Daryanto, while the representatives from Gerindra were Prabowo, Fadli Zon, Muchdi PR, and Halida Hatta.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sutrisno Bachir said PAN had decide to support a new figure in the presidential election.
"We remain consistent with what we said several years ago," Sutrisno Bachir said.
Asked about the new figure, Bachir said it would be revealed later, but he added that there should be a common vision in the coalition with Gerindra.
Bachir said they had discussed the possibility of a coalition but they had to wait for the results of the final ballot count by the General Election Commission (KPU).
Asked about the fact that PAN cadre Hatta Radjasa'(minister/state secretary in the Yudhoyono administration) was a member of Yudhoyono's electoral success team, Bachir said he did not want to make any comment on the matter.
But he added PAN had officially left the coalition with the present government.
Meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto said the series of intensive meetings he had held with the leaders of other political parties were part of a democratic process.
Prabowo said the intensive political communications between him and other political party leaders had yet result in something final.
"The situation remains conducive for other meetings with all parties," Prabowo said.
Asked about his plan to meet with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) leader, Prabowo said it was just a matter of time for him to do so but there had already been some mutual communication.
After his meeting with Sutrisno Bachir, Prabowo went to a meeting with United Development Party (PPP) Chairman Suryadharma Ali at the PPP head office on Diponegoro street in Central Jakarta.***
