Kyrgyz, Tajik sides exchange views on state border delimitation and demarcation

Bishkek, Feb.24, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan exchanged views on delimitation and demarcation of the state border. The exchange of views took place during the meeting of the two countries’ government delegations on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border in Batken town, Batken Oblast (Kyrgyzstan), the press service of the Kyrgyz Government reported. Heads of the countries’ delegations- Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akram Madumarov and Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim expressed full understanding on the need to intensify further description of the passage of the project line of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border in the remaining areas. The heads also noted the need to eliminate the interlaced and impregnated areas on the line of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border between Batken Oblast and the city of Isfara before the delimitation of the state border. The working groups on legal issues have been instructed to continue discussing the legal basis for the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik State border. The topographic working groups will continue to consider the issue of description of the state border project line and finalize the issue of elimination of interlaced and disseminated areas on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border line. As part of the meeting, the heads of border districts held a separate meeting with the participation of law enforcement agencies to work together to prevent conflicts in border areas. During the meeting, there was a need for further actively enhanced cooperation between the border areas and districts of the two countries, as well as for strengthening friendship, mutual understanding and good-neighbourliness. In this regard, heads of Batken Oblast and Sughd Region approved a joint action plan for cooperation in 2020. The meeting of the government delegations resulted in signing the relevant protocol.
