HOUSE LIKELY TO HAVE TWO FACTIONS ONLY : LEGISLATOR
Jakarta, April 16 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) in the 2009-2014 period will possibly only have two major factions, namely an opposition and a pro-government faction, a legislator said.
"The deliberations on the requirements for the formation of House factions have not yet been completed but I think there would be a very basic change in the coming DPR term, namely the factions would likely consist only two," said Ganjar Pranowo, chairman of the House Special Committee for the drafting of the bill on the composition and status of DPR, Regional Representative Council (DPD) and the House of Consultative Assembly (MPR), here on Thursday.
He said that if the two major factions were not formed at least two major blocs of factions would appear, namely an opposition bloc and a bloc which supported the government.
Pranowo said that with the presence of two major blocs it would make the DPR easier to take a decision or a voting.
Besides, the people would also obtain a political education because political parties or factions in the House would no longer take inconsistent attitude.
"Now the people are being educated to become inconsistent because the elite of their political parties have no consistent attitude.
Ahead, all this must be made clear, whether or not you are in the government's camp. If this could be agreed, it would make our political course beautiful," he said.
Asked on the possibility of regional representative assembly (DPRD) to adopt the two major blocs, Pranowo said in the first stage it would likely be applied in the DPR because the DPRD had not yet applied the parliamentary threshold system.
Besides on the House factions, the bill on the status and composition of DPR still has to deliberate other issues such as the composition and number of DPR, MPR and DPD leaders.***1***
