PLN TO BUILD GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANTS UNDER 10,000-MW PROGRAM
Jakarta, April 16 (ANTARA) - State-owned power utility company PLN will build a number of geothermal power plants (PLTPs) in the second phase of its 10,000-MW capacity development program, a PLN executive said.
PLN director for planning and strategy affairs Bambang Praptono said here on Thursday the company would cooperate with state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina in the construction of geothermal power plants.
"We are planning to construct a number of PLTPs as part of the 10,000-MW power development program," he said adding that PLN was now exploring a number of sites for the geothermal power projects.
He said the funds to finance the PLTP projects would come from the company's internal resources and loans.
Bambang said his side was still finalizing the lists of the project locations which would be included in the second stage of the 10,000-MW capapcity development program "We will submit it to the government in the near future," he said.
As a whole, PLN was preparing 102 projects as part of the second phase of the 10,000-MW capacity development program with a total capacity of 10,126 MW worth US$15.47 billion.
A total of 5,399 MW worth US$6.495 billion of the projects would belong to PLN and 4,727 MW worth US$8.975 billion to independent power producers (IPP).
PLN deputy executive director Rudiantara said earlier that PLN still needed about US$1.3 to US$1.4 billion to finance its 10,000-MW capacity development program.
"We are trying to obtain the funds from the money market and banking sector," Rudiantara said at the office of the state minister for state enterprises (BUMN).
He said that PLN had secured foreign exchange funds amounting to 3.6 billion dollars to finance the program. Of the amount, the agreement for 1.9 billion had been signed while that for about 1.6 to 1.7 billion was still under process.
