TELKOM TO OBTAIN VENDOR FINANCING FUNDS FROM HUAWEI

Jakarta, April 17 (ANTARA) - PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) will soon obtain US$100 million in vendor financing funds from Huawei out of a commitment of up to US$1 billion, a spokesman said.

"We will take Rp100 billion first with negotiations on the matter to be done next week," PT Telkom's finance director, Sudiro Asno, said here on Friday.

He said Huawei, a network vendor from China, was one of the company's partners in the development of Telkom's infrastructure network.

Sudiro said the funds would be used for development of code multiple division access (CDMA)-based service infrastructure, broadband internet network, softswitch and broadcasting radio.

This year Telkom would develop at least 300 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to bring the number of its BTS to 1,300 units by the end of this year.

He said the interest rate of the loan still had to be determined but it was expected to be lower than the Jakarta Interbank Offered Rate of 2.0 - 2.5 percent.

He said the loan from the vendor would be part of the company's capital expenditure for 2009 which was expected to reach between Rp20 trillion and Rp24 trillion.

He said he was optimistic funds from vendors could be larger. "We are still seeking more funds from Japanese vendors such as Sumitomo or Marubeni through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)," he said.***
