Kyrgyzstan is by 98% dependent on drug imports

Bishkek, Apr. 20, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan is by 98% dependent on imports of medicines and medical devices, deputy director of the Department of Drug Supply and Medical Equipment Maryam Dzhankorozova told a news briefing in Bishkek.
She stated that import dependence had a negative impact on ensuring access to drugs.
Dzhankorozova said that the coronavirus pandemic provoked global drug shortages in the world.
“The borders of most states are closed to the export of many drugs and medical devices, as well as personal protective equipment needed for coronavirus. The situation in China, as the main producer of raw materials, provoked a whole chain reaction of the disruption of the production of drugs and medical devices around the world. This caused a shortage of products and rising prices in the world, many of which switched to prepayment,” she said.
Maryam Dzhankorozova noted that in Kyrgyzstan all these trends were extremely acute, especially in terms of the positions necessary for the treatment of coronavirus.
