African people continue to infiltrate into Yemen, 13 seized in Shabwa

SANA'A, April 19 (Saba) - Shabwa police have seized 13 Eritrean
migrants after they infiltrated into Yemen's territory of Attaq.

The arrestees were turned over to the Passport and Migration
Authority to deport them as they illegally entered Yemen.

On the other hand, Somali displaced people continue to reach Yemeni
territories with further 17 refugees including two women arriving in
the Thubab coastline in Taiz province during the last few days. The
Somalis were sent to the Yemen Red Crescent in the province.

Earlier, the Main Refuge in Kharaz district, Lahj, received more 86
African refugees including 23 women and nine children. They first
arrived in Shabwa and Taiz.

Last figures suggest the number of the African refugees who have
already arrived in Yemen is exceeding 700.000 people.

Yemen has started measures to deport illegal migrants, mostly from
Horn African countries, and improve the conditions of the displaced
people in the country.

In this regard, the International Organization for Migration
announced plans to open an office in Aden to follow up the issues of
the African refugees in Yemen.

An IOM official said the organization has assigned an expert to run
the project who will work to familiarize with the conditions of
African displaced people in Yemen in an effort to bring solutions
for their problems in coordination with international and local
concerned organizations.

The IOM will qualify African displaced people in Yemen through an
integrated program that will include providing with medical services
and re-inhabiting the refugees to ease burdens associated with their
arrival in Aden.

The two also discussed the possibility of boosting the European
support to improve the conditions of the refugees.
