PT INKOSINDO WORKERS RALLY AGAIN TO DEMAND SEVERANCE PAY
Jakarta, April 20 (ANTARA) - Some 30 protesters grouped in PT Inkosindo Success Workers Communication Forum (FKK) staged a rally again in front Jakarta City Hall on Monday to demand severance pay after being laid off by PT Inkosindo three months ago.
The protesters said they would continue to stage protest rallies until their demand to get severance pay in accordance with the manpower law was met by the company.
"If our demand is not met, all workers of the company will hit the street in a massive rally," FKK PT Inkosindo Suksess secretary Dini Setiawati said.
As many as 1,150 workers of the company in Cilincing, Tanjung Priok port area, were laid off on January 19, 2009 on condition that they would continue to receive their salaries until they had received severance pay.
However, Dini said the company only paid 75 percent of their salary in January and 50 percent in February but they got nothing in March.
Around 200 workers from the same company also staged a rally last Thursday (April 16, 2009) outside the Singapore Embassy on Rasuna Said street in South Jakarta, causing a massive traffic jam in the street.
Traffic on Gatot Subroto street was also affected by the congestion in Rasuna Said street after the protesters used the slow lane of the street where the Singapore Embassy was located.
Before coming to the Singapore embassy, the protesters had gathered outside the Manpower Service Office on Jos Sudarso street in North Jakarta to voice their grievance.
PT Inkosindo Sukses which has seaports in Singapore and Seattle, the United States, is a shipping company located in North Jakarta.
The demonstrators in the rally urged the Singapore government to help them get reasonable severance pay from the PT Inkosindo Sukes management.
