Pontianak, W Kalimantan, April 20 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Army has no plans so far to beef up its troops along the border with the eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak, the chief of the Tanjungura Regional Militry Command, Maj.Gen Tono Suratman said.
"In 2009, we have no agenda to increase the number of troops guarding the 2.004-km border between West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and Malaysia," Suratman said here Monday after installing Major Susanto as the new cavalry detachment commander of the Tanjungpura Regional Military Command. Major Susanto replaces Major Asep Solihin.
There will be no increase in the number of border security posts which so far stood at 54 as the situation in the border regions was quite conducive, Tono Suratman said.
The recent relatively safe legislative elections served as an indicator of the conducive sitation in the border regions, he said.
After installing Maj. Susanto, Tono Suratman boarded a helicopter for an inspection of security conditions in a number of border areas. ***1***
