FM Aidarbekov talks over phone with Vice-President of European Commission Borrell

Bishkek, May 7, 2020. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov held on Thursday phone talk with European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell. The sides discussed the measures taken to combat the COVID-19 virus, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported. The Kyrgyz side expressed gratitude to the European Union for rapid response and the decision to allocate additional support for emergency needs of Kyrgyzstan in the amount of EUR 36 million. In developing the new Multi-Annual Indicative Program of the EU for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2021-2027, Kyrgyzstan has also proposed to maximize the funding component of programs and projects through allocation of funds for budget support, and to identify support to the health sector as a priority. Aidarbekov and Borrell debated implementation of the agreements following a telephone conversation between Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and President of the European Council Charles Michel held on Apr.2, 2020. Issues on organization of upcoming visits and events, taking into account the spread of COVID-19 were also considered.
