Parliament extension aims to carry out electoral reforms: VP says

SANA'A, April 20 (Saba) - Vice President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi said on Monday that the Parliament extension for two years aims to implement several reforms at the electoral system.

During his meeting with the expert of National Democratic Institute (NDI) Maryam
Mountagui, Hadi affirmed that the agreement between the General People Congress
(GPC) and Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) aims also to guarantee a wide-responsibility
local ruling system.

He also noted that, in spite of democracy Yemeni is still in its underpinning years,
Yemen has made great strides in this field, reviewing the stages of the democratic
experience development in Yemen as well as the previous elections.

Hadi praised in this regard the support provided by NDI in particular, and the
European Commission and International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in
general to upgrade democratic and electoral systems in the country.
