Kyrgyzstan sends humanitarian aid to population of Uzbekistan affected by dam burst

Bishkek, May 11, 2020. /Kabar/. The Government of Kyrgyzstan has provided humanitarian assistance to the population of Uzbekistan affected by the Sardoba dam burst on May 1, 2020. The decision was signed by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev, the Government's press service said Monday. The Kyrgyz Republic sent 1,000 tons of cement, 100 tons of rice and 10 tons of vegetable oil to the affected population of the neighboring country. In the morning of May 1, one of the dams of Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya region had burst. 56 people were hospitalized, about 70 thousand people were evacuated to safe areas, 20 people were rescued from the roof of houses and trees, there were no victims. Several settlements were flooded, roads and agricultural lands were damaged. The Sardoba water reservoir was built in 2017 and has a capacity of 922 million cubic meters of water. Over 10 local Uzbek companies were involved in its construction.
