YOGYAKARTA HOSTS ASEAN CONFERENCE ON HOME CARE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE
Yogyakarta, April 21 (ANTARA) - HelpAge Indonesia foundation in cooperation with South Korea is holding an ASEAN Conference on Home Care for Elderly People in Yogyakarta, April 21-24, 2009.
The conference was being attended by participants from Korea and 10 member countries of ASEAN, Murni Airsandi, a spokesperson of the HelpAge Indonesia, said.
ASEAN groups Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines.
On the sidelines of the conference, the meeting's participants would visit older people in Sleman, Bantul, Kulonprogo, and Gunung Kidul, she said.
HelpAge Indonesia has implemented community-based home care program for older people to improve their's sustainable life quality, she said.
"Our field workers visit the older people every week to find out their needs," she said.
The community-based home care program has been implemented so far in Jakarta, West Java, Aceh, East Kalimantan, Lampung and West Nusa Tenggara.
HelpAge Indonesia was established on 29 May 1996 with the assistance of among other things, HelpAge International and HelpAge Korea. Its mission is to attain a sustainable quality of life for disadvantaged elderly persons. Its activities include regular visits and basic health care for the sick, fragile and lonely elderly persons at home.
