LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATE ATTEMPTS TO COMMIT SUICIDE
Gorontalo, Indonesia, April 21 (ANTARA) - A legislative candidate of the Democratic Party (PD), Ismiati Saidi, was believed to have attempted to commit suicide because she felt depressed by her poor showing in the recent legislative elections.
Ismiati was found unconscious in her room on Monday at 7 p.m. local time and immediately rushed to Aloei Saboe Hospital, which took around three hours by car from her home.
"The family was suspicious because she was silent when we called her, and finally we opened the door and found her unconscious," Roy, a relative, said here on Tuesday.
Ismiati, a treasurer of the Democratic Party's Boalemo chapter, was suspected of having taken over-dosed tranquilizer pills and fell unconscious, Roy said.
He said the legislative candidate was believed to have become depressed after learning she had not secured enough votes during the legislative elections. She shorted 10 votes from her PD colleague in the first rank.
The widow with one child had spent a lot money for the legislative seat race in the legislative elections held on April 9, 2009.
She was still unconscious and being given intensive medical care at the hospital until Tuesday morning. ***
