PRESIDENT TO OPEN IPA CONVENTION EARLY MAY
Jakarta, April 21 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will open the 33rd Convention and Exhibition of the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) at the Jakarta Convention Hall, here on May 5, 2009.
"During the event, new oil and gas block contracts are scheduled to be signed and new blocks will be announced," IPA Executive Director Dipnala Tamzil said here on Tuesday.
The Government has prepared 24 new oil and gas blocks which would be announced by its officials during the IPA Convention and Expo, he said.
The oil and gas blocks mostly located at eastern Indonesian regions, consisted of 17 blocks to be offered through regular tenders and seven blocks through direct offers, he said.
The 17 blocks comprise Tomini Bay I, Tomini Bay II, Tomini Bay III, Tomini Bay IV, Tomini Bay V, Tomini Bay VI, Tomini Bay VII, North Bone, Bone Bay I, Bone Bay II, Bone Bay III, Bone Bay IV, Menui, Morowali, Sula I, Sula II, and Birds Head.
While, the seven blocks to be offered directly are Kubu, North East Ogan Komering, Offshore West Java, Blora, North Makassar, East Simenggaris, and Digul.
Some 110 participants representing oil and gas companies, service providers, contractors and consultants have confirmed their participation in the oil and gas exhibition.
The Convention and Exhibition's theme would be "Managing Resources and Delivering Energy in a Challenging Environment" which reflected challenges of the oil and gas industries amids the global recession and the oil price slump, according to Ananda Idris of the convention and exhibition organizing committee.
"We have many competitors such as Vietnam and Thailand. This task is not easy in such a situation," he said.
The IPA Convention and Exhibition which be held May 5-7, 2009, will among other things discuss topics on "The Global Crisis, its Impact on the Nation's Economy and Future Energy Demand" and "Delivering Energy in a Challenging Environment".***
