PKS ESTIMATES IT WILL WIN 50-70 PARLIAMENTARY SEATS
Jakarta, April 21 (ANTARA) - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) estimates it will win 50 to 70 seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) based on the results of the April 9 legislative elections, a spokesman said.
PKS spokesman Ahmad Mabruri said here on Tuesday that the estimate was made through an internal simulation based on its own calculation on the results of the April 9, 2009 legislative elections.
"PKS is expected to gain between 50 and 70 seats in the DPR. The number is bigger than the one it won in the 2004 legislative elections which totaled 45 seats," he said.
He said that besides the increasing number of seats this year, the coverage of supporter areas had also increased evenly in various regions.
"This is a reality that PKS has developed in various regions in the country," he added.
In the meantime, a member of PKS faction in the House, Agus Purnomo said PKS wanted its cadres to get the opportunity to become vice president to accompany Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"PKS desires the SBY-Hidayat pair to contest in the presidential election," he said at the parliamentary building on Monday.
Agus Purnomo said that there was a strong tendency from within the PKS to coalesce with the Democratic Party. "But personally, I am of the opinion that it is free to be an opposition in parliament."
Up to Tuesday noon, based on the results of the vote counting by the General Elections Commission (KPU) at the National Tabulation Center, PKS has finished in the fourth with 1,114,429 votes or 8.19 percent of the total votes counted so far.
The Democratic Party still occupied the first rank with 2,799,542 votes or 20.58 percent, followed by the Golkar Party in the second place with 1,984,469 or 14.59 percent and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) with 1,912,437 or 14.06 percent.
The total number of votes that had entered the national tabulation center up to Tuesday noon reached 13,600,450 only of 171 million eligible voters based on the fixed voters' lists.***
