KPK GRILLS TWO LEGISLATORS IN BRIBERY CASE
Jakarta, April 21 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday grilled two House of Representatives (DPR) members as witnesses in a bribery case related to pier construction projects in eastern Indonesia, a spokesman said.
The main suspect in the case is House member Abdul Hadi Djamal who was arrested by the KPK not long ago.
The two legislators questioned on Tuesday were Malkan Amin and Suharso Monoarfa, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said.
Malkan Amin is a legislator of the Golkar Party and a member of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission V in charge of transportation affairs.
Suharso Monoarfa is a legislator of the United Development Party (PPP) and deputy chairman of the DPR's Budget Committee.
The two law makers were grilled as witnesses in the bribery case being investigated by the KPK, Johan Budi said.
KPK had arrested legislator Abdul Hadi Djamal, Transportation Ministry employee Darmawati and businessman Hontjo Kurniawan in the same case, in Jakarta on March 2, 2009.
KPK agents had found Rp54.5 million and US$90,000 in cash when arresting them. The money was allegedly used to bribe legislators in relation with the pier construction projects in eastern Indonesia.
Abdul Hadi Djamal, after being grilled by KPK, said his arrest was related to a meeting between several legislators grouped in the DPR's Budget Committee and officials of the finance ministry at Four Seasons Hotel, in Jakarta, on February 19, 2009.
On April 16, KPK grilled MP Rama Pratama of the Prosperous Justice Party (KPK) and MP Hasto Kristianto of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
Other law makers who had been grilled by KPK concerning the bribery case were Jhonny Allen of the Democratic Party, Enggartiasto Lukita, and Emir Moeis.
Some of the legislators denied information of Abdul Hadi Djamal and they said the meeting at Four Seasons Hotel had nothing to do with the bribary case being investigated by the KPK.***
