FIRST LADY EXPECTS MORE WOMEN TO BECOME DECISION MAKERS

Jakarta, April 22 (ANTARA) - First Lady Mrs Ani Yudhoyono voiced hope here on Tuesday that more women could become decision makers in the country.

She said at a "Kartini Award" presentation that a lot of women in the country had already been working in a variety of fields but only few could reach a decision-making position although demographically the number of women in the country accounted for 51 percent of the total population.
She said in view of the demographic conditions more women should be in the decision-making positions.
To women who have won recognition because of their work the First Lady appealed to open more opportunity for other women so that they could also develop.
"This way more and more women will progress and our life will be more meaningful," she said.
The Kartini Award event was organized by women's magazine Kartini to commemorate "Kartini Day" on April 21.
Awards were given among others to six women representing 100 inspirative women in various fields according to the magazine.
The magazine also presented a special award to screen artist Widyawati for recognition of her success in film industry and also in loyalty as a wife for 36 years of late Sophan Sophian representing a ideal image for Indonesian women.
First Lady Ani Yudhoyono advised Widyawati to motivate other women to be able to play multi-dimensional roles like what she had shown.
