SOME 10,000 TREES PLANTED IN ACEH ON EARTH DAY

Banda Aceh, April 22 (ANTARA) - As many as 10,000 tree seedlings were planted around Keuliling Dam in Aceh Besar district to mark Earth Day on April 22, 2009.

"We have planted 10,000 trees of various kinds around the dam to mark this year's Earth Day on April 22," Earth Day commemoration committee chairman Husaini Syamaun said here on Wednesday.
In addition, 350,000 other trees had been planted by the students at the dam which was dedicated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in February this year.
In 2007, various kinds of trees were also planted at the dam's side and now it looks green.
Aceh Vice Governor Muhammad Nazar said tree planting was part of Aceh Green Vision of reforestation in the province.
Muhammad Nazar said the commemoration of Earth Day this year in Aceh was good momentum to restore forest damage caused by illegal logging.
"Every year in every occasion the Aceh provincial administration plants trees and therefore we want the local people in Aceh to do the same thing as well," Muhammad Nazar said.
Besides planting the trees, the vice governor also spread 5,000 of spawn of fish into the dam.
