President Lee vows support for IT industry

SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak Wednesday vowed support for
the country's IT industry, saying advanced technology is at the center of growth
that will get the country through the global economic crisis and secure its
future competitiveness.
Lee's pledge for what he called "systematic" government support came at a special
meeting with 25 industry representatives at the presidential office Cheong Wa
Dae.
"Though the economy is currently going through a difficult time, I believe we can
revive our economy and create jobs if all of you here continue to work hard," Lee
told the meeting.
"Economic recovery is important, but what the government is more interested in is
what the world order will look like after the economic crisis is over," the
president said.
President Lee has said the future world market will be dominated by nations with
advanced, environmentally friendly technologies.
"At the center of green growth is green technology, and at the center of that is
IT technology," he said at Wednesday's meeting.
