Seoul shares open higher on tech gains

SEOUL, April 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started slightly higher Thursday as institutional investors snapped up tech shares like Samsung Electronics amid a bright earnings outlook, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 4.05 points, or 0.3
percent, to 1,360.07 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Market leader Samsung Electronics and flat-panel giant LG Display got off to a
strong start, rising more than 1 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,345.75 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 2.75 won from Wednesday's close.
