TWO ILLEGAL LOGGERS IN PANDEGLANG, INDONESIA, NABBED

Pandegelang, Banten, April 23 (ANTARA) - Police have nabbed two illegal loggers in a forest area of PT Perum Perhutani in Pandeglang district, Banten Province, Indonesia.

"The two perpetrators are arrested with 23 pieces of log as evidence," chief Pandeglang Police's Criminal and Investigation unit, Adjunct Commissioner Yusuf Rahmanto said here on Thursday.

According to him, illegal logging in Pandeglang district was rampant and two days ago the police also nabbed three other perpetrators at Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK).

Therefore, Yusuf Rahmanto said security officials had been instructed to closely monitor the trade of illegal logs in the district and nearby areas.

He said the logs sold outside Pandeglang were probably stolen from Ujung Kulon National Park.

Yusuf Rahmanto said the two illegal loggers arrested on Wednesday were identified as Amir (35), and Juhro (37), the residents of Janaka village in Jiput subdistrict.

Amir and Juhro were nabbed at Perum Perhutani conservation area in Pandeglang.

"If found guilty, they would serve at least ten years in jail," Yusuf said.

Meanwhile, Pandeglang Area-I Conservation Section spokesman Dedi Sunardi said supervision at the conservation areas in the district would be tightened.

"Following the arrest of Amir and Juhro, we are going to make tighter coordination with the police to protect the forest areas in Pandeglang district," Dedi Sunardi said.
