PRESIDENT TO OPEN ADB MEETING IN BALI

Denpasar, Apr 23 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is slated to open the 42th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on May 4, 2009.

"According to schedule, the President will open the 10-day meeting," Bali police spokesman Senior Commissioner Gde Sugianyar said in Denpasar Thursday.

Sugianyar who is also spokesman for the ADB annual meeting said actually the meeting would be started on April 27, but it would not be until May 4 that the Head of State will open the event.

The event, bearing the theme "Increasing investment, the use of alternative energy, and food security in supporting sustainable economic development", will be attended by 5,000 delegates from 67 countries, including 48 from the Asia Pacific region, in addition to the media and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Bali police will deploy 707 of its personnel with a backup of 77 police officers from the Police Headquarters in Jakarta, Sugianyar said.
