Seoul shares open higher in volatile session

SEOUL, April 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened slightly higher in a highly volatile session on Friday as investors bought shipyards and construction issues, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) edged up 0.14 points or
0.01 percent to 1,368.94 in the first 15 minutes of trading after moving in and
out of negative territory.
Major shares traded mixed with large-cap shipyards and builders pushing the index
higher.
The local currency was trading at 1,342.25 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 5.75 won from Thursday's close.
