AUSTRALIAN SCHOLARSHIPS SUPPORT HUMAN RESOURCES IN INDONESIA

Jakarta, April 24 (ANTARA) - Australia and Indonesia on Friday further strengthened their commitment to develop human resources and growth in Indonesia through the Australian Development Scholarships, according to the Australian Embassy here on Friday.

The Governments of Australia and Indonesia sealed their commitment by signing a Subsidiary Agreement for the scholarships program for 2009-2012, it said.

The AUD$40 million (Rp 300 trillion) program offers Indonesians the opportunity to study at Masters or Doctorate levels at an Australian University in fields of study important to economic, social and community development in Indonesia.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer said the scholarships strengthen human resources and contribute to Indonesia's long-term development needs to promote growth and greater stability in the region.

"The Australian Development Scholarships program exemplifies the Australian Government?s long-term commitment to Indonesia's development," Farmer said.

"Australia and Indonesia are working in partnership to build Indonesia's human resources and create strong people-to-people links between our two countries." he said.

Australia provides 300 postgraduate scholarships every year for Indonesians to not only obtain postgraduate qualifications but also experience the Australian way of life and share Indonesian culture heritage with Australia.***
