MATARAM POLICE FOIL DEPARTURE OF 12 ILLEGAL TKIs TO MALAYSIA
Mataram, Indonesia, April 24 (ANTARA) - Mataram police foiled the illegal departure abroad of 12 Indonesian workers (TKI) hailing from East Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), from Mataram's Selaparang airport on Friday.
Mataram police chief Adjunct Commissioner Arief Yuswanto said the TKIs were about to leave Mataram with the help of an illegal TKI agent, Suwarno (32), in association with manager of a TKI recruiting company PT Parwita Nusa Raya.
"We managed to foil their departure when the TKIs were assembling at their shelter owned by PT Parwita Nusa Raya in Gegutu Rembiga, Mataram," he said.
The TKIs were supposed to leave for Jakarta from Selaparang Friday at 6 a.m for Soekarno-Hatta airport, from which they were slated to proceed to Batam in Riau Islands.
The police took them, as well as Suwarno, because they did not have any valid papers.
Arief said the police was still going to question the manager of PT Parwita Nusa Raya identified as Lalu Ikhsan Kurnia Jaya, because the TKIs claimed they had already paid a total of Rp47.7 million for the trip. Each of them had to spend Rp 3.7 million for the arrangement of their papers and transportation.
Suwarno told the police his boss in East Malaysia had sent him to recruit the TKIs, and managed to collect 12 of them from their home in East Lombok.
The 12 TKIs were scheduled to go to an oil palm estate in Malaysia.
Suwarno also told the police the papers of the TKIs will be arranged by PT Parwita Nusa Raya after arrival in Batam, so that his job was merely to take care of their departure.
Actually, he said, he planned to cancel the departure of the 12 TKIs to Malaysia, provided the Rp 47.7 million which had already been paid to PT Parwita Nusa Raya be returned to the 12 TKIs, who were also hoping to be returned to East Lombok.***
