Authorities foiled antique smuggling attempt
SANA'A, April 24 (Saba) - Authorities at Sana'a International
Airport have thwarted one of the passengers smuggling ten of human
and animal bronze statues.
The authorities have seized the archaeological pieces in smuggling
attempt to Djibouti by one of representative of an Arab states
embassies in Sana'a , General Manager of protecting antiquities in
General Authority for Antiquities and Museums Hisham al-Thawr told
Saba.
"The pieces have been seized and a traveler and the embassy's
representative are being interrogated to be referred to prosecution
to complete legal measures against them," added al-Thawr.
He highlighted cooperation of the airport's authorities who helped
thwart antique smuggling attempt. He also thanked all collaborators
in security forces and customs over their alert which helped
reducing cases of antique smuggling via Sana'a Airport.
Early this month, the authorities thwarted smuggling attempt of
historical manuscripts at Sana'a International Airport on their way
to Turkey.
