GOLKAR PARTY, PDI-P AGREE TO FORM TEAM FOR COALITION
Jakarta, April 24 (ANTARA) - Golkar party and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) agreed to form a team which has a task to prepare details for their possible coalition in July 8, 2009 direct presidential race.
The two major political parties reached the agreement after Golkar party leader Jusuf Kalla and PDI-P's chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri met here on Friday night.
Jusuf Kalla after the meeting which lasted one hour and ten minutes told the press that both sides basically agreed on how togetherness should be built through a team which will be set up soon.
"Both of us will discuss the results of this team," Kalla who was the first to speak said.
Meanwhile, Megawati said, one thing which should be noticed in processing the coalition is that Golkar is now part of the ruling parties (aside from the Democratic party), while PDI-P is an opposition.
"It also gives political education to the people that in building a coalition this has something to do with building new matters in governance order," she said.
The two sides also agreed to keep in touch one with the other, while waiting for the team to carry out its task.
When asked about who will be presidential and vice presidential hopefuls relating to the coalition, because Kalla and Megawati have been nominated as presidential candidates by their respective parties, Kalla on the occasion said "just be patient".
Megawati also hinted that a change can happen to her position anytime, adding that the PDI-P's national conference which will be held soon, can become an evaluation forum for such postition. ***
