NUR WAHID READY TO DO WHATEVER PKS DECIDES

Jakarta, April 25 (ANTARA) - Former Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) chairman Hidayat Nurwahid said he was ready to carry out whatever was decided by the party's Advisory Board Conference on Saturday.

Hidayat said if in the Advisory Board Conference he was nominated to be Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's running mate in the upcoming presidential election, he would accept it.

"I, in principle, will leave it to the PKS Advisory Board which has the mandate and is responsible to make a decision. And I will do whatever it decides," Hidayat said on the sidelines of the 11th PKS Advisory Board Conference here on Saturday.

Hidayat made the statement when asked whether he was ready if in the ongoing conference he was nominated to run for vice president with the support of Yudhoyono's Democratic Party.

But he refused to make any further comment, and opted to wait for the outcome of the conference which was to last until Sunday afternoon.

Hidayat Nurwahid who is chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) is one of eight PKS cadres who are going to be nominated as the future national leaders.

The seven other names are the party chairman, Tifatul Sembiring, Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Salim Segaf Al Jufri, PKS Secretary General Anis Matta, the party's associate chairman , Shohibul Iaman, House of Representatives (DPR) Commission-X chairman Irwan Prayitno, Central Advisory Board chairman Suharna Surapranata, and Syariah Board chairman Surachman Hidayat.

"PKS always upholds ethics and deliberations, and will carry out the final result of its conference in a critical, serious, and responsible manner," Hidayat said.

He added that PKS's failure to win 20 percent of the votes in the recent legislative election had dampened its desire to nominate its own presidential and vice presidential candidates.

"Whether PKS will therefore automatically not nominate its vice presidential candidate or leave it to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, will be decided in the party's Advisory Board Conference," Hidayat said.

But he noted that the National Mandate Party (PAN) which trailed behind PKS in the recent elections had dared to nominate Hatta Radjasa as its vice presidential candidate.***
