S. Korea to triple aviation safety training support for developing countries

SEOUL, April 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will triple the number of trainees from developing countries it supports in a program for air traffic-related personnel to help improve global aviation safety, the government said Sunday.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority said it will invite 135 personnel this year
to give them hands-on training in overall aviation safety, airport management,
security and other areas of expertise directly connected with the commercial
aviation.
The program, operated jointly with the International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO), is designed to help all countries keep pace with the latest advances in
aviation safety and operational systems that are vital for flight operations.
"In the past, the country usually invited 45 people every year, but the numbers
will be increased three-fold," a government official said.
He said for this year, the committee under the Ministry of Land, Transport and
Maritime Affairs will invite trainees from African countries that can help lay
the foundation for future cooperation.
"The training program will be designed to meet their specific needs so they can
put into practice what they have learned," he said.
