(ATTN: photos available)
By Shin Hae-in
SEOUL, April 27 (Yonhap) -- British pop artist Julian Opie will hold his first
exhibition in Seoul featuring his conventional computerized imagery, Kukje
Gallery said in a press release Monday.
About 30 of the artist's most recent works, including LED and LCD images and
sculptures, will be showcased in the upcoming exhibition which will run from
Wednesday through May 31 at the gallery located in Jongno, central Seoul.
Born in 1958 in London, Opie is considered one of the most influential
contemporary pop artists following the likes of Andy Warhol with his own unique
modus. A former trustee of the Tate Gallery in England, Opie's works mostly
involve the reduction of photographs or short films into figurative reproductions
created using computer software.
His works are currently housed at the Tate Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art,
MoMA in New York and the Tokyo National Museum of Contemporary Art.
Opie gained popularity when he was asked to design the album cover for British
band Blur. In 2005, the artist designed the LED stage screen for Irish rock band
U2's Vertigo world tour.
